TASK 1

Your school is going to allow students to open a café. Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of this policy. Please include specific details and examples in your response.

Allowing students to open their own café has both benefits and drawbacks. On one hand, it gives students an opportunity to learn how to run a business. During the process, they’ll learn how to advertise, how to train their waiters, and how to decorate the café. Then, this experience can give them not only sense of accomplishment but also work experience which make them more competitive in job market. On the other hand, running a business may distract students’ attention from study. For example, my cousin run a book store when he was in college. He spared no effort on promoting sales instead of academic courses. Finally, he failed in several final exams and graduated one year later than his peers.

TASK 2

Some people prefer to learn math at school; others prefer to learn math after they start to work. Which do you think is better? Please include specific details and examples in your response.

From my perspective, people should learn math before they work, because, as we all know, math is not only for practical use but also for cultivating logical thinking, persistence, and sustained attention. For example, I have learned math since I was 3 years old. Every time I solve geometry problems, I immerse myself in those geometric shapes and focus on where I should add an auxiliary line. Then, temporarily, nothing could distract my attention. Also, by practicing how to solve inequations, I learned to face problems from different angles and solve them step by step, not in a rush. All the math learning experience helps improve my problem-solving skill which has benefited me a lot in later work.
