Is there life on Mars? 

这是我们今天的主题，也是托福考试的热门话题。

托福听力和阅读考试中都探讨过“火星上是否存在液态水？是否存在生命？”

今天我们在《托福说》中也来探讨一下：

▶有水

先了解一下NASA在2012年发射的火星探测器——Curiosity“好奇号”。

根据Curiosity提取的岩石样本，NASA 在2013年宣布，样本的化学成分表明，很久以前有微生物存活于火星。

“An analysis of a rock sample collected by NASA's Curiosity rover shows ancient Mars could have supported living microbes. Scientists identified sulfur, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and carbon - some of the key chemical ingredients for life.”

Curiosity在火星上拍照发现了pebbles, deltas. 一些科学家认为这地表特征正是河流曾经存在于火星上的证据：

“Photographic evidence suggests that liquid water once existed in great quantity on the surface of Mars. Two types of flow features are seen: runoff channels and outflow channels. Runoff channels are found in the southern highlands. Outflow channels are probably relics of catastrophic flooding on Mars long ago.”

▶没水

BUT!并不是所有科学家都on the same page.

今年3月3日的听力讲座中就提到：一些科学家认为recurring slope lineae不一定是由水流造成的，也有可能是由熔岩造成的，以此否定了火星上存在生命的理论。
