在雅思阅读中，填空题一直占据着很重要的地位，想必很多同学在做填空题时有去预判空格词性的习惯，但是同学们可以通过进一步预判填什么类别的词来更快速的解题，尤其是对于那些填名词的空格。同学们可以通过本篇文章的学习，去通过空格前后的相关信息预判出具体可能是诸如人物、地点、学科、事物等类别的名词。

先来看一个例子，C5T1R1中的第4题，题目为In 1764 Dr Johnson accepted the contract to produce a dictionary. Having rented a garret, he took on a number of ______, who stood at a long central desk. 很多同学能够根据年份以及空格前后的定位词找到第五段中的James Boswell, his biographer, described the garret where Johnson worked as 'fitted up like a counting house' with a long desk running down the middle at which the copying clerks would work standing up.这句话。在去找答案之前先认真审题，a number of后接名词，并且还是可数名词的复数，在答案的寻找上咱们也有了一定的方向，再继续把这句话看完，很快能注意到空格后紧跟了一个who引导的非限制性定语从句，细心的同学就会发现这个定语从句能帮助咱们进一步判定空格应该填和人相关的名词，所以很快能找到copying clerks这个答案，但是如果有同学不认识clerks这个词也没有关系，根据咱们最开始预判的是填一个可数名词的复数，通过排除法也能找到这个词。

来做一个练习，C6T1R3中的第33题，题目为It would clearly be impossible for the people to engage in ______ as a means of supporting themselves. 因为题干信息指明了是在C、D两段，所以定位不难。介词后面预判填名词，再进一步看空格前后的相关信息，很多同学对engage这个词不陌生，但是对engage in这个短语的意思记忆很能有点模糊。咱们可以先看空格后面的意思，“作为一种支撑（养活）他们自己的方式”，和空格构成逻辑上的主谓关系，同学们可以大胆的推断一下能养活人的方式会不会可能是和工作职业相关，其实如果同学们能知道engage in意为“从事与，忙于”的话，更能确定此空格应和工作职业相关。再根据句中有个否定含义的词impossible，应该很快能从原文The Canadian Arctic is a vast, treeless polar desert that's covered with snow for most of the year. Venture into this terrain and you get some idea of the hardships facing anyone who calls this home. Farming is out of the question and nature offers meagre pickings.找出farming这个词来了。

接下来直接看一些题目来预判，C5T2R1的第3题，There were several reasons for the research into plastics in the nineteenth century, among them the great advances that had been made in the field of ______ and the search for alternatives to natural resources like ivory. field意为田野、领域，这个空格前后的相关信息提示我们应该填和领域相关的名词。C13T3R2中的第19题，The study revealed that ______ tended not to modify their ordinary speech patterns when interacting with their babies. 根据后面的两个人称代词their可以预判出空格答案应该和人相关，并且their babies可以进一步告知我们空格应该是填和babies有亲密关系的人。

诸如这类的题相当常见，有一眼能看出答案的，也有需要咱们去认真研读空格前后信息的，不管是哪种，都需要咱么在做题的时候细心耐心，并且开发自己的脑洞，去对题目所给信息进行大胆合理的预测。然而这个方法特别考验大家的语法功底，所以同学们在备考时除了认真记单词以外，千万不要忽视对语法的强化哟。
