Some people think that it is more beneficial to take part in sports which are played in teams, like football. But others think taking part in individual sports is better, like swimming. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Both individual sports and team ones are beneficial physical activities. I think it is more important to explore the benefits of these two types of sports, rather than to select from them.
Those who prefer team sports value social interaction and teamwork they can experience during participation. Unlike swimming or jogging during which one can finish the exercise alone, team sports games, such as basketball and football, need a group of players to rely on each other. In this process, participants cannot only have close contact with other teammates, thus reinforcing their friendship, but also promote the virtue and ability of working together. In addition, in team sports, players will be aware of the fact that their behaviour and performance have influence on other members and even the whole team, which helps them further realize their roles in and responsibilities for the bigger group. In this sense, team sports have educational role in cultivation of people’s sense of social responsibility.
In comparison, solo sports athletes may seem like a lone wolf, but they also gain growth opportunities therefrom. Compared with a football player who can count on other teammates, individual sports players have to be self-reliant and more stronger-willed. They have no one else to blame for the failure, which pushes them to spare no effort. With such independence and dedication, those who play solo sports have stronger willpower to overcome hardship even without others’ help.
In conclusion, there are advantages to both kinds of sports and it is up to each individual’s interest to decide which to participate in. In fact, many people take part in a range of sports to develop different qualities.
