你知道怎么 “说人”吗,手把手教你说起来

人物类话题在雅思托福口语考试中非常常见,所以在留预阶段各个级别的口语也涵盖了人物类话题,比如一级unit 1 Self、unit 2 Family, 二级unit 1 Character, 三级unit 5 Success, 四级unit 1 Identity 可见人物话题的重要性。虽是高频题,但不一定简单,特别是留预阶段的学生掌握的词汇量不大,口语能力欠佳,那么如何让我们更流畅更全面的“说人”呢?

首先看看留预阶段涉及到的人物话题:

 

级别

口语话题

1级unit 1 Self

1. Do you like your name?

2. Does your name have any special meaning? Is there any tradition?

2级unit 2 Family

1. How many people are in your family? Who are they?

2. Do you prefer living on your own or with your parents?

3. Who are similar to you in your family? In what way?

2级unit 1 Character

1. Which of these words and phrases describe someone’s character?

2. How would you describe yourself? Can a person’s character change over time? Why? Are you the same person you were five years ago?

3. Describe a famous person.

3级unit 5 Success

1. Who is the most successful person you know? What has he or she accomplished?

2. What characteristics make someone or something successful?

4级unit 1 Identity.

1. How would you describe your own personality?

2. How do you think others might describe you?

 

我们不难发现这些人物类话题可以分为亲近关系的人和名人。不管是那类人物描述我们都要遵从以下几个思路:

 

1. 外貌的描述 ( physical appearance)。首先我们可以从以下几个方面描述外貌:年龄 young/old身高average/medium height着装casually dressed(便装)/formally dressed(正装)头发blonde(金色的)/short/slightly wavy(稍卷的) hair脸型 round/ heart-shaped(瓜子脸)/square/oval(鹅蛋脸) face等,除此之外还可以加一些个人特色的描述,比如炯炯有神的眼睛bright eyes, 可爱的酒窝lovely dimples, 精致的脸蛋delicate face等等。

 

举例说明:1级unit 2 discussion point, 以下是我的一位学生回答的不同版本,答案1是在没有讲解情况下作答,答案2是在介绍了怎么描述一个人,并给出了口语框架后的作答

How many people are there in your family? Who are they?

答案1

Four people,my parents, sister and me.

答案2

There are four people in my family, my parents, sister and me. My father, of medium height and a little fat with glasses, is a typical middle-aged man. My mother has long hair, also with glasses, and always kind to us. My young sister is just 5 years old, with a round face and bright eyes. She’s so cuteI love her very much.

 

很明显讲解后的答案给出了很多细节,内容更充实,而且there be句型结构就是取自于本单元的听力材料。根据给出的外貌描述词汇(从身高年龄特点等方面)和句式使每个人都更加饱满了。

 

2. 关于人物性格的描述 (personality)。如:善良的kind-hearted热心的warm-hearted内向的introverted外向的extroverted聪明的 intelligent努力工作的 hard-working/ industrious喜欢社交的 sociable可依靠的reliable…,当然,对性格的描述不仅仅是形容词的堆砌,还要用例子、个人经历等等细节将形容词解释清楚,即形容词+细节描述

 

举例说明:2级unit 1 discussion point,How would you describe yourself? 提供给学生的句式是:Some would say that I ______, but I think that I ____./ I guess I _____./I would describe myself as_____. 两种答案是在讲解前后学生的不同回答:

I’m outgoing and funny. I like to hang out with my friends.

答案2

I would describe myself as an outgoing person. Some would say that I’m an introvert, but actually I’m quite outgoing. If I hang out with my friends, I will go crazy, especially, when we go to the KTV. I’m just a little uncomfortable with total strangers. But once I know you, I would like to share my happy moments and delightful life with you.

 

学生知道补充细节以及句式结构后使内容充实了很多,主要是通过对比不同性格并着重举例描述了自己的性格。我们可以看到用具体的事例去解释性格特征会让我们的口语更加清晰充实。

 

3. 人物对你的影响或和与你的关系。如果话题是名人或老人的时候更多的是他们对我们的影响是什么,比如可以从社会经验知识积累、精神品质等方面谈论;在谈到朋友时可以从两者的关系朋友对你的影响等方面进行。

 

举例说明:2级unit 1 Character,Describe a famous person,这是一个老生常谈的话题,大家都会有自己认识的名人,但是如果想要把这个人在一两分钟内介绍清楚又有点困难,所以要介绍这位名人主要成就和影响,以及基本情况(职业背景和外表性格等)。这里句型可用上的:Speaking of a famous person,I’d like to talk about __人__ who is a __职业__. I suppose he/she is quite __性格1__  because he/she__原因_. Actually, he/she made her name by___事件或作品___. He / she is regarded as a _____ because he /she made outstanding progress in ______. Besides, he/she is like a role model to other _+原因____. 口语框架中介绍了基本信息、成就以及影响,每一点后面都应该加上举例说明。

 

其中有位学生的回答是:

 

Speaking of a famous person, J.k. Rowling pops up(出现) in my mind first. She is a well-known writer and her astonishing novel Harry Potter series are popular all over the world. (介绍职业背景和主要作品)

 

I think she is very imaginative(有想象力的) because she can think of some attractive plots(吸引人的情节) that we may not. Her ideas are always innovative(创新的). She is also very hard-working. For example, she often stays up very late to write novels. Besides, she is persistent. When her manuscripts were declined for many times, she never gave up writing. She believes that good things come to those who wait.(对人物性格的分析,通过简单的举例从不同的性格特征分析了人物。)

 

Actually, she made her name after Harry Potter 1 was published(出版). People at all ages are crazy about the novel, especially among the teenagers. The character of Harry Potter has impressed us deeply. What’s more, the series have been adapted for movies(改编成电影), which have become one of the most popular films today. J.K. Rowling has played a leading role in her literary world. She made a commencement address (毕业典礼演讲) in Harvard, which inspired millions of students to pursue their dreams.(人物的成就以及影响)

 

4. 结合具体题目。例如3级unit 5 Success, What characteristics make someone or something successful? 题目的关键词What characteristics,我们要回答的是不同的characteristics,不仅要给出答案,还要结合具体的实例来进行阐述,这样更加直观。Characteristic可以是:ambitious有野心的creative有创造力的passionate有激情的driven有驱动力的positive积极的talented有才智的determined有决心的diligent勤奋的persistent有毅力的。 句型有:Successful people are usually …(举例细节). Another key character is…(举例细节)

 

比如一位学生的回答是:Successful people are usually ambitious. Take Jack Ma for example, at first he’s just a English teacher, later, he founded(建立)Alibaba Group and became a businessman, sparing no effort to run his company(不遗余力去经营公司). He grew up from a nobody, because he wants to chase the chance and change China in a way(他想抓住机会改变中国). Through his efforts, he revolutionized the way people shop and pay(通过不断的努力终于革新了人们的生活方和付款方式). He indeed changed China.

 

学生抓住了关键词characteristics,用的思路就是“答案+细节(举例说明)”。不管是侧重什么人物的描述,我们只要记住基本的几个要点就可以“说的溜起来”:人物的外貌、职业背景、性格特征、成就影响以及具体话题关键词的描述,这其中都是以“答案+细节”的思路组织语言。
