Many of you dream of going abroad and aspire toward a bright future. But the cruel fact that your English level is barely satisfactory may bring you crashing back to reality at some critical point. You have to hesitate at the crossroads and torture yourself with the difficult task of improving your English. Today, I’d like to show you a master key to success in English learning. That’s New Concept English! In this passage, I will show you how to make the best use of this magic book?

Many students may misunderstand that New Concept English is old-fashioned and tedious. In fact, we can pick up quite contemporary expressions if we are observing enough. Let me set the first lesson as an example.

The first lesson is on private conversation. We all know that “private” means 私人的, but what does it mean in our daily life? Foreigners always pay much attention to protecting their privacy, so it’s impolite to ask their age, salary, marriage status, or religion. One of my students once asked a middle-aged foreigner a question: “Why do you remain single?” Actually, he was gay and had a life partner. So he answered with embarrassment: “It’s private.” This expression can help you out when you are in an awkward position, not willing to answer some questions.

In addition, in this passage, when a guy was enjoying a movie, he was continuously disturbed by a couple’s talking. He had to complain: “I can’t bear the noise.” Bear here means 忍受. It’s frequently used in oral English, especially when you have an argument with others. So remember, “I can’t bear it” can be used to make a complaint when you are pissed off. In The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon is a really picky and tough person. Once, he irritated his flat mate Lenord. Lenord was about to explode and shouted: “I can’t bear you.” Also there are other ways we can express our anger, such as “You drive me crazy”. In Friends, Rachel was annoyed by a man who always sang on Saturday morning, then she said: “The singing guy drives me crazy.” It means she can’t bear the noise. Moreover, When Hillary knew that her husband Clinton had had an affair with a young intern Lewinsky, she said, “I’m beside myself with anger.”

Another merit of New Concept English is that we can master all the basic grammar after learning New Concept English 1 & 2. Many students regard grammar as their nightmare due to its tediousness. But creativity may assist us to learn it more efficiently with much more enjoyment. Recently, a piece of breaking news in entertainment circles made a hit. Barbie tied the knot with Wang Xiaofei, CEO of South Beauty. They are a match made in heaven. Actually, this wedding scene helps us become familiar with some key structures; there are five basic sentence patterns in this lesson.

At the sacred moment, the priest asked the Bride, “Barbie, do you want to take Xiaofei to be your lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part according to God's holy ordinance?”

"I, Groom, take thee, Bride, to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.”

“Yes, I do.” Barbie answered with a sweet smile. “I do” is the most basic sentence pattern. “I” serves as subject, while “do” is predicate.

Looking at his gorgeous wife, Wang Xiaofei whispered at her ears: “Honey, you really look gorgeous.” It follows the pattern Subject（主语）+ Verb（系动词）+ Complement（表语）.

Wang knew that the girl standing in front of him was his princess. They were meant to be together. He said to his dear wife, “I love you.” This sentence follows the pattern S + V + O（Subject主语+ verb动词+ object宾语）

Looking back on the rough road she had travelled, Barbie rejoiced that she had finally found her true love. From that moment, there was a man to share all her sorrows and joys with. She felt deeply grateful to this man who had changed her life. She said, “You make me happy.” This is a sentence pattern following S + V + O + C（Subject主语+ Verb动词+ Object宾语+ Complement补语）

Now the ceremony was coming to an end. Following the tradition, Wang said to his wife, “I'll give you a kiss.” This is another important sentence structure: S + V+ O + O（Subject主语+ Verb动词+ Object宾语+ Object宾语）.

Let’s make a wish that Jack shall have Jill, all shall be well. In the end, I want to quote some words from The Pursuit of Happiness: “People can't do anything themselves; they want to tell you you can't do it.” Don't ever let somebody tell you you can't do something; if you have a dream, you have got to protect it. I believe you will make it one day.

我相信很多人都梦想出国并期待出国带来的美好未来。然而，关键时候，一个残酷的事实把大家带回了现实世界。那就是很多同学的英语水平还差强人意。这个困境让大家受尽挣扎和折磨。今天，我想给大家一把钥匙，它能够带领大家到达英语学习成功的彼岸。这个神奇的钥匙就是新概念英语！下面，我将跟大家分享一些使用这本神奇书籍的方法。

很多学生误以为新概念已经过时而且很枯燥。事实上，只要足够细心，可以从中学习到很多最潮的表达。下面我以课为例。

课中出现了private这个词，这个词的意思是“私人的”。但我们如何在生活中使用这个表达呢。老外们很注重保护自己的隐私，所以，如果询问对方的age年龄，salary收入，married status婚姻状况，religion宗教等就会被视作不礼貌的行为。一次，我的一个学生问了一位中年外教一个问题：你为什么一直单身呢？事实上这个外教是个同性恋而且有个固定男友。当时他就囧在那里而且有些怒气的回答：这是我的私事。这个时候private就可以派上用场了。下次大家如果也遇到这种比较尴尬的情形，别忘了用这个表达哦。

另外，在这个文章中，在男主人公享受电影时，一对情侣的谈话让他很扫兴。他不得不停下来对他们抱怨：我受不了你们的噪音了。在这里bear有忍受的意思。这个在口语中也是很常见的，尤其是和别人发生争执时，但大家注意哦，

have fight with在口语里不是指的真的打起来那么严重哦，只是有争执而已。所以大家记住，当你被人惹毛时，I can’t bear it可以在口语中用来抗议投诉。在现在热播的美剧——《生活大爆炸》中，谢耳朵是个挑剔又难缠的家伙。一次室友Lenord被气炸了，便大叫：我受不了你了！当然还有一些其他的表达可以表示我们的愤怒，比如说，you drive me crazy你让我发疯。在《老友记》中，一个喜欢星期六早晨唱歌的家伙总是打扰瑞秋睡懒觉，她就用特有的瑞秋式夸张语调说：那个唱歌的家伙真让我发狂。她用这样的表达抱怨那个扰人清梦的家伙。另外连智慧的女强人希拉里也有不能控制自己情绪的时候，当她得知自己的老公克林顿和年轻女实习生莱温斯基有暧昧关系时，她说了这么一句话，I’m beside myself with anger.

另外，新概念的一个很大优点就是我们能够在学习完新一和二后掌握所有的基本语法。很多学生觉得语法如噩梦一样可怕。但其实只要我们加一点点新意，语法也是可以很有趣的。

最近娱乐圈的一则爆炸性新闻吸引了所有人的眼球。台湾明星大S和中国餐饮巨头俏江南CEO汪小菲结婚。这个婚礼场景能够帮助我们掌握这课中最重要的语法结构——五大基本句型结构。

牧师询问新娘：“你愿意让汪小菲成为你的合法丈夫吗？从今以后，不论境遇好坏、贫穷或富有、生病或健康、你都发誓爱她，珍惜她，直到死亡将你们分离吗？”

“是的，我愿意。”大S回答，脸上洋溢着甜美的笑容。这个I do 就是我们最基本的句型了，I做主语，do 做谓语。看着自己美丽的娇妻，汪小菲对她耳语道：“亲爱的，你真美。”这句话就是我们第二大句型主语+ 系动词+ 表语。新郎知道，现在站在他面前的就是他等待多年的公主，他们是命中注定的一对。他对着大S由衷的表白：“我爱你。”这个句型是第三大句型主语+动词+宾语。

回望一路走来的坎坷情路，大S很庆幸自己终于找到了真爱。从这刻起，她拥有了一个能和她分担所有快乐和忧愁的人。她感激这个改变了她生活的男人。“你让我快乐”，这就是我们第四大句型主语+动词+宾语+补语。现在仪式进行到尾声，按照传统，新郎对新娘说：“我要吻你了。”这句话就是我们第五大句型了：主语+动词+宾语+宾语。

让我们祝愿有情人终成眷属。最后我想引用《当幸福来敲门》Christ的话：“那些一事无成的人往往告诉你，你也成不了大器，但永远不要让任何人告诉你，你不行。如果你有梦想的话，就要去捍卫它。”我相信你总有一天会成功。
